ZIMBABWE
Dr. David Livingston, the man who discovered the magnificent Victoria Falls, makes mention in his journals of the great herds of game he encountered in his trip down the Zambezi River in 1851. This is the land that would one day be named Rhodesian and now is known as Zimbabwe. A medium sized country, about the size of the state of Montana, Zimbabwe is blessed with a variety of habitats and a colossal wildlife resource. From the rich flood plains of the Zambezi Valley, to the vast Mopane woodland of Hwange, and Matebeleland, and the Ironwood thickets of the Malapati in the lowveld, Zimbabwe has drawn hunters since its first discovery and remains today a fantastic safari destination.
Zimbabwe boasts an impressive list of big game species including elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo, as well as highly sough after plains game species such as sable and kudu. Couple this great hunting with very good infrastructure and world-famous sights like Victoria Falls and it is no wonder that this country has been for decades one of the most popular safari destinations. Game-rich areas like the Matetsi and the Zambezi Valley have been part of hunting literature for more than 100 years and these areas are still producing great trophies today.
Today hunting takes place on private ranches, in tribal areas, as part of the Campfire rural development program, and on government concessions. Plains game hunting on ranches is similar to that found in neighboring South Africa. In tribal lands and on government concessions dangerous game, including elephant, buffalo and leopard, are still abundant in some places.
Civil disobedience and the decay of institutions and law and order following the advent of majority rule resulted in the destruction of most of the famous game ranches of the West Nicholson area in the lowveldt and the great, inexpensive plains game hunts that this area was famous for have now passed into history. Nevertheless, the hunting on tribal concessions and in some government controlled safari areas is still excellent. The reduced flow of tourists has inspired many operators to reduce prices, making big game hunting in Zimbabwe the greatest value in African hunting today!
We are pleased to offer a variety of hunting options in Zimbabwe, from simple plains game safaris on the few remaining private ranches in the lowveldt, to the finest dangerous game safaris in the best concession lands in the country. These arrangements vary enormously in price and quality of service and therefore each safari must be tailored to the individual desires of the customer. We represent only the best safari operators in Zimbabwe.
We are also pleased to offer a variety of sightseeing options in and around Victoria Falls. This also includes fishing for the voracious tiger fish, elephant back rides, boat tours and other activities. Boat trips down the beautiful Chobe River in neighboring Botswana can also be taken while staying at Victoria Falls.
