UZBEKISTAN
Sandwiched in between the arid deserts of Turkmenistan and the sky scraping Pamir and Tien Shan mountains of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, this small independent republic boasts diverse and abundant game populations. In the northeastern peninsula, where the Tien Shan mountains protrude from Kyrgyzstan, ibex of the lard Mid-Asian variety abound, as do Tien Shan argali sheep (O.a. karelini). Somewhat further south in lower ranges one finds the only huntable population of the Severtzov’s sheep, the harvest of which is strictly regulated by special permit. Far to the west, south of the Aral Sea roam limited, but huntable populations of Transcaspian urial sheep and gazelles.
Mid-Asian Ibex
Severtzov’s Sheep
Found only in Uzbekistan, this is the smallest of the argali sheep family. Licenses are limited, considerable advance notice required.
