Scandinavia is the cultural, historical, and ethnic region of northern Europe that includes the three kingdoms of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and by extension, the republics of Finland and Iceland. The vast territory of this Nordic region stretches from the Baltic Sea to well above the Arctic Circle. It contains vast wilderness areas with virtually no human population and is home to many game species. Since the days of the Vikings, the fiercely independent people of Scandinavia have a long and proud tradition of hunting, which endures to this day.
Tourism is a well-developed industry in Scandinavia and this region entertains millions of tourists and outdoor enthusiasts every year.
NORWAY
Rougher and even wilder than Sweden, Norway is becoming more and more popular as destination for international hunters. Licenses for reindeer are granted to landowners and are transferable to non residents, so hunting is readily available. The Hunting Consortium have made arrangements to buy the licenses for two excellent areas for our clients. One of these produces top quality trophies, while the other produces good representative heads each year.
The red deer of Norway are genetically different than the red deer of central Europe, so SCI has designated them as a separate subspecies. These deer are larger than the Scottish red deer and smaller than the continental red deer. They are found on the coastal regions of south-western Norway.
Norway is also a great destination for European moose, although not as popular as Sweden. In the southern regions there are also some roe deer and fallow deer.
The infrastructure in northern Norway is good and travel between areas is easy, although time consuming.
