At The Hunting Consortium Ltd., we offer exceptional Kodiak brown bear hunting adventures, rooted in decades of field experience and an unwavering commitment to ethical hunting. The Kodiak bear, one of the largest land carnivores on earth, roams the wild, wind-lashed coastlines and steep alpine ridges of Alaska’s Kodiak Island. Our hand-selected local partners and expert guides provide deep knowledge of the bear’s movements and the island’s demanding terrain, ensuring each hunt is both successful and conducted with respect for the land and the animal.
Hunting Kodiak brown bears is not a pursuit for the faint-hearted. Itโs a test of grit, patience, and skillโan encounter with raw, untamed nature. These giants, fed by the islandโs rich marine ecosystem, are formidable quarry. But for those ready to earn the memory, the reward is a story that lasts a lifetime. Whether youโre a seasoned hunter or looking to face the greatest challenge of your hunting journey, we tailor each expedition to your goals and abilities. Our guides understand the bearโs patterns, the islandโs moods, and the rhythm of a true hunt.
Choosing The Hunting Consortium Ltd. means choosing authenticity, adventure, and stewardship. We follow rigorous conservation standards and Alaska state regulations to protect the Kodiak bear population. With us, youโre not just taking part in a huntโyouโre preserving a legacy. Come walk the ridges, glass the valleys, and share the firelight with us.
Kodiak brown bears (Ursus arctos middendorffi) are a distinct subspecies of brown bear found exclusively on Kodiak Island and nearby islands of the Kodiak Archipelago. Due to the regionโs abundant salmon runs and relatively mild climate, Kodiak bears grow exceptionally largeโsome weighing well over 1,500 pounds and standing over 10 feet tall. The sheer size, power, and intelligence of these animals make hunting them a unique challenge requiring thorough preparation and expert guidance.
Unlike their inland cousins, the grizzlies, Kodiak bears thrive on a diet rich in marine proteinโespecially salmon, but also seaweed, clams, and even whale carcasses. They roam coastal meadows, dense alder thickets, and alpine slopes, where hunters must stalk carefully, often from long distances, in unpredictable weather.
The Kodiak brown bear is protected under stringent regulations to ensure its long-term survival. Only a limited number of permits are issued each year, and hunting areas are strictly managed. Our team is deeply familiar with these rules and works closely with state wildlife authorities to ensure compliance. We handle all logistics, from permit acquisition to transportation, allowing you to focus on the hunt itself.
This is not a casual outing. You will hike through tough terrain, live out of a spike camp, and rely on your instincts, training, and the steady voice of your guide. But those who accept the challenge earn something far greater than a trophy: they earn the right to say they stood in Kodiakโs wild heart.
Kodiak Island is the crown jewel of brown bear country. The islandโs rich salmon streams, sweeping valleys, and rugged coastlines provide perfect conditions for the largest brown bears on earth. At The Hunting Consortium Ltd., we operate in exclusive areas where bear densities are high, and hunter pressure is low.
Spring Kodiak Hunting Season โ Spotting the Giants Early
In spring, after emerging from hibernation, boars begin roaming to find sows. This is the best time for spotting large males from afar. Snow still dusts the higher ridges, and the rivers run fullโprime conditions for glassing and stalking. Visibility is often excellent, making it a strategic season for rifle hunters.
In fall, kodiak brown bears concentrate around salmon streams and berry patches. Their coats are in peak condition, and their size is at its maximum as they fatten up for winter. The weather can be harsher, but the rewards are great. Fall hunts often involve close encounters and intense tracking, ideal for the hunter seeking a heart-pounding experience.
We provide air transport to remote campsites within permitted kodiak brown bear hunting zones, avoiding over-hunted areas and giving our clients the best possible advantage. Our camps are outfitted for comfort and survival, with guides who know every rock and rise of the country.

Sitka Blacktail Deer โ Agile Companions of the Island
These hardy island deer are abundant in some areas and make for an excellent secondary hunt. They offer a different kind of challenge and are often pursued during bear downtime.
Wolf โ Elusive Shadows of the Tundra
Elusive and cunning, wolves roam the island and are occasionally seen during bear hunts. Taking a wolf adds prestige and difficulty to your trip.
Black Bear โ A Rare Opportunity
Though less common than on the mainland, some zones allow for incidental black bear hunting
